Beverley gave the Bees Colts a hard test for the first game of the new year!

Happy New Year to every one for the Bees Colts! yep the boys have had a some what long layoff having last played 11th Dec, with a couple of fixture having to be cancelled by the the other teams, it been a frustrating start to 2017, we threw our hat into the pool fixture to try get a game to get the lads match fit for the the run in to the end of the season with a fight to take back their top spot in the league.
It was Beverley that gave us the opportunity to get a fixture as they too was with out a game, speaking to their coach he explained that the was a mixed team like us but with an age group below us so having an U16/17 squad but was wanting to test his lads against us at a higher level,
So game on! Beverley traveled to the hive with a squad of 16 a few last minute unavailable to them, we on the other hand once again and has been a great turn out we have come accustomed to this season with a squad of 21 lads has made all the difference
to the success of the Colts season so far. also having a couple of players back from injury helps too.
at this point i would like to say a huge thank you to Martin Walker who has been a fantastic supporter of the Colts this season, it helps that he also is a qualified referee, as we was struggling to get one for the game he stepped in at short notice for the day. as a thank you l think we can get some vouchers for a sun bed as they was some very white legs on show. another thank you to our 1st team captain Tom Booth who again has taken an active part also with the Colts this season thought he would get a session in the club gym wrong! with head coach Tafa missing to family commitments, Tom stepped in to coach the lads, such has been the support for our boys from all the parents who have come down to support the Colts in all weathers.
To the game to look at the teams you would be forgiven for thinking Beverley was the older of the two teams having a big set of forwards, from the start Beverley started the stronger and definitely up for the game , pinning the Bees back deep in their own half, they was quick to disrupt the Bees at the break downs and forcing the Bees into early errors, it was Beverley that opened the scoring with a well worked try, taking nothing away from Beverley but you could see the Bees was still suffering for the Christmas hangovers as they for the first half just didn't seem to wake up, Beverley pack was working really well pushing the Bees back in the scrums, ripping the ball from hands and enjoying themselves with so much position, but the Bees just managing to keep Beverley's attacks at bay, it was Bees to hit the score sheet with our forwards using their mauling to good effect the one thing that was going right for the Bees in the first half was their lineouts giving them good field position with drive after drive moving closer to Beverley's try line Byron Finn picking up from the base of the ruck drives towards the line only to be deemed held up, from the scrum it was Mike Joannides that made sure of the score this time, but Beverley carried on frustrating Bees at the break down and with some hard tackling, but with quick ball through the Bees backs got the Bees on the move, with Rhys McNicholl at the end of the line taking the ball breaking through several tackles when over to put the Bees in front 10-5 it stayed at half time, with a good talking too from Tom and with themselves the second half was very much a different Bees team, Beverley still wanting to take the game to the Bees competed well for the first ten minutes of the second half but with a couple of changes at half time, it was great to see Lewis Peel back on the pitch after such a long stay at the sideline through injury, the Bees have missed him at the breakdowns as he's like a pickpocket , stealing the ball from the oppositions at every opportunity giving the Bees plenty of position, he was also rewarded with a try on his return, the Bees started to turn the screw on Beverley and seem to shift up a gear with their attacking Connor Fry also returning from injury showed his strength to take a score from Beverley, but not to be out done Beverley hit back with another try with some loose tackling from the Bees, that was to be their last score as the Bees hit back with our very own Flash Connor Capper just cut Beverley's defense in half to put the ball down under the sticks.
Final Score Bees 27-12 Beverley
A big thank you to Beverley traveling a distance to come play the Bees as it being the first time these two teams have played we hope to get a returned fixture sorted and many more to come.
Beverley gave a very good performance and definitely tested the Bees, you can see why they themselves are having a great season also.
There was some standout performances today Sohail Zafar putting in some big hits on the big lads of the Beverley forwards his defense was great but Man of the Match this week went to the whole team its hard coming back from a long break and to play a team of Beverley's caliber, was a hard test for them and each and everyone put in a good effort so Well Done !!
Once again a big thank you to our fantastic supporters cheering the lads on. as always body's down to training please to iron out a few issues practice makes perfect after all.
