Lack of numbers but no lack of spirit from the lads.

The first day of spring! what a day warm sunny at home, what more could we ask for a few more players maybe. With a number of players missing mostly injured, it was going to be a very tough day for the lads as Old Brods have never been short in the numbers of there squads, they could of fielded 2 teams the amount they brought with them to wagon lane.
Seasons gone by have always proved a great fixture between these two team, today was not going to disappoint either, Old Brods did offer the bees some of the players to make up the teams but it can be a strange thing playing against your own team mates, Bees decided to stick with what they had, but in some ways this seems to bring the best out in them working overtime, once again Old Brods having a much bigger pack than ours made good use of there big lads running it up the middle to good effect, but the Bees have always been a resilient side dealt with them with some big tackles.
The Bees line-out was providing a great platform to work from, we still seem to keep the ball in hand a little to long instead of using the back's, as when the back's did get the ball they were able to move up field with strong powerful running by Byron Finn and Jarred McNicholl who was playing out of position, also our very own Flash on the wing Will McCallum was to be the first to open his account of the day beating the Brods defense to go over in the corner, Byron making the conversion.
Old Brods starting to get into the game more and more moving the ball well through the forward to there backs, but Bees was able to steal the ball at the rusk on a few occasions with Alvero making a good break from within his own half broke tackle after tackle to go over for a try extending the Bees lead again Byron making the conversion, Old Brods wasn't to be out done went over for a score with some well work play from there backs, it was end to end stuff from both teams not backing down big tackles going in all over the field, but Bees just edge it in the first half with the least errors to take a lead into the second half.
It was Bees to strike first with Alvero twisting and turning through the Old Brods defense to claim his second of the game. Bees working really hard by now, could be forgiven if they switched off a little to allow Old Brods back into the game and to take another score from them, it was always going to be hard with Old Brods having the luxury of a big squad and fresh legs, Bees working the ball up field through the forwards left us camped on the Old Brods try line being held up on several occasions, it was man mountain our very own Connor Fry to take the next score , with Byron converting to move away from Old Brods, but back them came and with some mistakes and missed tackles Bees allowed Brods back into the game yet again, with the last 10 minutes of the game being very tense for the Bees, as Brods pressed for the try line, Bees was able to turn the ball over at the brake down moving the ball through most of the team with some good hands and quick ball, Will McCallum was on hand to use is speed to go over for the final score of the game.
Final Score Bees 31 Old Brods 22.
MoM this week could of gone to a few players this week, twins doing what they do best hard running and even more hard tackling, but it came down to two lads this week Dom playing at Fullback having good vision to clear our lines when needed with some great attacking runs, but for me this week has to go to Will McCallum his pace and beating of the Brods defense also in saving his team on a few occasions with some great try saving tackles, Well Done.
this week we got to see the Bees team of old with there attacking and defensive work rate beaning the difference today, all the lads should be proud of this display, again many thanks to our parents for there continued support in what has been a frustrating season for the team, so a nice rest over the Easter period. Not to many chocolate Easter eggs BOYS!!
