Stocksbridge v Bees U 13's - Yorkshire Cup

Bees forage into deepest South Yorkshire and return with well deserved win
Having had the fixture postponed twice, this quarter final fixture of The Yorkshire Bowl between The Bees and Stocksbridge was eagerly awaited.
We had been forewarned that Stocksbridge RFC was situated high in the southern Pennines with attendant weather conditions but thankfully a cold and clear morning awaited us.
Luckily, our Captain called correctly and elected to play downhill!
The Christmas break was soon blown away and with slick handling, rampaging rucking and powerful running, the boys were soon 15 – 0 ahead with tries from Thomas Carnelley, Tom Deacon and Sam Mantle.
As so often happens with an early lead, the foot slipped off the accelerator and Stocksbridge, pushed up hill, scoring just before half time. A precautionary HIA to Rowan Thaper resulted in him being withdrawn but that meant that we had no further substitute for the remainder of the game.
Halftime Score - Stocksbridge 5 Bees 15
With the home team now playing downhill and employing bulldozer tactics, sterling defensive tackling from the whole team eventually gave way to a further try from Stocksbridge. The boys were feeling under the cosh and some real character was displayed by the team in digging deep and holding back the opposition.
Bees began to change their tactics, Sam Bryan kicking for position with effective precision allowing the Bees to surge uphill.
Well worked tries from Connor Gill and Sam Mantle pushed the score higher and when the whistle blew, Bees had run out worthy winners.
Final Score - Stocksbridge 15 Bees 25
