13th of December 2015. This was the last time the U16s played, due to the floods around the area and our club being devastated by the them, it hasn't been the best preparation to the new year for our boys.
A big thank you to Andy Scally (team manager) who has work so hard to get this weeks fixture to go a head, even tho it was down as being a home fixture, another big thank you to the coaching staff at Old Rish for swapping it to accommodate our team, they to have been hit with the floods which has seen there grounds like ours underwater, maybe we could start a new sport underwater rugby?? Old Rish had to search for a pitch for the game to go ahead, Brighouse High School allowed our two teams to play at the school so again Thank you.
We was just happy to finally get a game after so long who cared if it was away from home, with a lot of lads missing we only managed to take fourteen to the game, against Old Rish you have to go with a strong mind set, being one of the best team around it is always a big challenge to any team to face them, maybe the lack of number to our squad played on some of our minds who knows? but with Bees taking the spoils from our last four encounters, Old Rish could smell blood and in some ways there best chance of taking the result today. having to play a few players out of position doesn't help either, with Theo Scally our Hooker playing on the wing tells you the sort of dilemma the coaches had to put a team together.
Not taking anything away from Old Rish they are a very well organised team and well drilled. so from the off got Bees on the back foot and this was to be the tone of the game for us always being second best, you could see Old Rish wanted this one more than us, we seemed very sluggish at the break down giving the ball away far to easy, allowing Old Rish more time on the ball to attack our line and with good effect, Old Rish used there extra man well creating overlaps to stretch the Bees defensive line. It wasn't till the second half that the Bees started to move the ball around, managing to frustrate Old Rish keeping them to just one score in the second half, Old Rish could of run away with it, if not for the strong defensive tackling of Tom Oddy, Josh, and Byron close to our try line on several occasions stopping Old Rish from scoring.
As we say let learn from this and move forward we win as a team we lose as one, no one man to blame, another thank you to our parents travelling away again but hopefully this has blown some cobwebs out the grey matter of the lads and work on a better performance in our next game.
Just like sitting for exams you have to learn, revise, learn some more so getting more down to training the more we can learn revise, learn some more to improve the way the team play to get the best results.
