BEES FIGHT WITH GRIT AND DETERMINATION TO GET THROUGH TO THE SEMI FINALS.

A mild, yet windy morning at Wagon Lane welcomed BEES vs Selby's U13s. With a previous solid run in the Yorkshire Bowl, both teams spectators, parents and coaches were on for a good game today.

A full turnout from BEES U13s with a couple absentees from Magic Dan and Bilal Sniper provided Boss Hogg senior, Tom Beesman Senior and Mega Watts with some confidence in managing a game.

After the coaches debriefing Captain George Williams 'Bite Yer legs' led the BEES team out. Losing the toss the BEES pushed back to allow Selby to kick off. With some fast advantage and attacking from Selby it was clear they weren't here to lose and within the first 5-minutes they took the lead 5-0 to Selby. With some encouragement from Boss Hogg senior, Mega Watts and Beesman Senior the BEES came back with fighting spirit. Forwards Ismael Rocket Man; James The red, amber and black engine, Thomas Warhorse, Curly The Chieftain Tank, Oliver Hercules and Nathan Boss Hogg pushed back with clean attacking, rucking and scrumming. Ready to offload was scrum half Sam Power Rocket to fly half, Jack Green Demon and onto Jim King Cobra, closely supported by Charlie the flying Beesman taking the ball and cutting through the Selby defence to take a try for BEES with a level score line 5-5.

Heads up and a sprinkle of optimism, the BEES retreated back to their half to receive the ball from Selby's kick off. Hands ready, the BEES took control of the ball pushing back within minutes into Selby's half. Ready for offload Sam power rocket was there to pass out to Jack Green Demon then out to Joe Laughing assassin to take the BEES gain line within 10m of Selby's try line. Another ruck down, BEES won the ruck, quick hands from Sam Power Rocket pushes forward through the Selby defence to King Cobra to take another stunning try for BEES taking the lead 2-1.

With a string of replacements at his disposal, Boss Hogg Senior brought on Jacob Killer Watts and Fernando Galatico to give a break for Sam Power Rocket and Jack Green Demon. Within minutes Killer Watts was on the ball offloading down the line to the BEES backs great footwork again from the Flying Beesman, Bite yer legs and out to Harry Houdini who pushed the Selby defence back. Despite this Selby took the opportunity of having the wind behind them and played the ball down the field nearing the BEES try line. But who should be there - yes, The flying Beesman Charlie! Picking up the ball with full control, he powered his way through the Selby defence and sprinted for nearly 80m to take another try for BEES. Half time, the BEES were 20-5.

The second half witnessed much improved rucking from the BEES evidence that hard earned training sessions do work, and with great control and balance from centres George Fryers, Ananconda, Isaac Tomahawk and Joe The Laughing Assassin the BEES carried the ball back down the Selby half. Within 20m of the Selby try line, the BEES fought hard and finally the ball was released to Curly, The Chieftain Tank who took a 10m drive through the Selby defence to take a try for BEES.

With a tired BEES emerging, Selby pushed back to take two more tries in last five minutes. Nervous and apprehensive, the BEES woke up and defending their line in the last few minutes, to take the win and welcome the semi finals. Final score - 35-15.

Big thanks go out to Selby for travelling to Wagon Lane and who put on a great game against BEES. Congratulations to our try scorers Charlie, Jim, George Willie, Sam and Curly. Thanks also to Nick Leadbeater for refereeing.

Man of the match went to Jim Young 'King Cobra' and best attitude to 'Nathan Hogg 'Boss Hogg'.

Great game guys - amazing outcome and a well earned win.

Andy.
