Bees U 13's v Moortown

The first fixture between our two clubs at this age group and our first home game of the season proved to be a one way street as Moortown played a hard and fast game to which a slightly understrength Bees team found it difficult to compete.
The reduced numbers (11 a side) offered more space that might normally be available on the increased pitch size and Moortown were quicker to take advantage with two particularly big players dominating open play.
As injuries mounted for the Bees and despite valiant defence which prevented the scoring going higher, Bees were always on the back foot and rarely ventured into Moortowns 22.
It’s a real step up from Under 12’s to Under 13’s particularly in pitch size, which gives more space in which to run and defend, the game becomes more physical but also offers increased opportunities to introduce game tactics and for individuals to step up and take responsibility for changing the pattern of play.
So, the journey continues. They say that every defeat is a learning curve and we will take away some positives from the game as well as looking at aspects of our game to improve.
Lastly a plea!! The squad needs some serious training time which means regularly attending training sessions as it was clear from Sundays game that performance levels will only improve alongside increased fitness and skill levels. This Wednesday we will be looking very hard at tackling, tackling and tackling together with use of the ball going forward……….
