Bees U 12’s finish on a High Note!

A cracking end to the season this morning at the Harrogate Festival where The Boys were drawn in a Waterfall Competition against Touring side Leigh & old rivals Skipton progressing further with games against hosts Harrogate, North Ribblesdale & locals Wetherby. The waterfall analogy is such that if you lose you are swept downstream and if you win, you swim upwards to meet others who have won.
Playing on Pitch 1 under the gaze of the new clubhouse the boys started slowly against a very physically dominant side from Leigh, currently touring with 22 x U 12’s (I pray every night for the day we have that number of boys to work with!) before going down 4 tries to nil.
With Chris Mantle putting the boys through their paces between games, their energy levels and commitment levels began to increase.
Our second game against Skipton began our revival with a 1-1 draw, with Skipton very fortunate to snatch a late equalising try after Max Hassan had opened with his first try for The Bees (lots more to come Max!). Though, the sad news was that we lost Noel Durkin through injury.
Next up were hosts Harrogate and the revival continued with some good tight play, though we just couldn’t cross the white line when close on two occasions. Harrogate created a well worked try mid way through the game & nicked a second after the hooter had sounded.
Not to be outdone, we kicked off against North Ribb and the boys at last kicked into gear with some flowing moves, good passing and oodles of confidence which led to a four try win including a try from Max Hassan and a hat trick from Sam Mantle including a great third try from a long kick into space from Sam Bryan.
So, with the Waterfall system working we swam upwards into a final game against local team Wetherby.
Two very evenly matched teams created an exciting finale before Tom Deacon with excellent support play swept over to put The Bees into the lead. We hung on fiercely until the final whistle creating a perfect end to the season for a cracking set of lads.
