Bees U 12’s turned over by Old Brods

On arguably the hottest day of the year so far, the U 12’s put out what we felt was a reasonably strong side with 11 players making the short journey over the hill into Calderdale.

Welcoming back players from injury and also being joined by new boy Max Hassan we arrived with high expectations following last weeks performance at Skipton.

It’s a large Junior Pitch at Old Brods, certainly well in excess of the mandatory maximum pitch size of 60m x 43m and as a result our boys struggled with the amount of space on the pitch right from the start.

Nevertheless, despite also playing uphill from the start two powerful runs from Max nearly took him over for a dream debut, though on each occasion he was held yards from the white line.

Despite Old Brods breaking through our defence to open the scoring, Bees continued to defend well and in many ways held their own for the first 15 mins.

As the match developed fitness and tiredness began to tell in the wilting heat and as the Boys tired, Old Brods upped their game to begin running in tries.

Despite some physicality from both sides in the last 5 minutes, Bees saw out the game with their heads held high.

Lots to work on in training, particularly tackling and support play.

In the meantime enjoy your Easter break and we look forward to welcoming the Boys back for training on Friday 21st as we look to finish the season strongly through the rest of April.
