Under 12's v Huddersfield YMCA

A fantastic turnout on Sunday am from the Under 12’s boys with a squad of 15 gathering for the first match of 2017 against Huddersfield YMCA after what has been 8 long weeks without a game and with a good proportion of the team recovering from Man Flu, we knew that we were up against it.

Our usual slow start meant that the boys from YMCA began the game by waltzing though our defence at will and were soon 5 tries up until the realisation that this wasn’t a training match but a real game began to sink in and with it some spark returned.

In truth we were up against a committed YMCA side that rarely put a foot wrong and were very strong in their counter rucking and in retaining possession.

Nevertheless, a breakaway try each from Tom Deacon and Sam Mantle meant that we were at least able to hold our heads up at the end of a tiring and at times quite physical encounter. Sams in particular was quite spectacular as he ran almost the full length of the pitch after taking the ball out of our defence.

So, the journey continues and again there were glimpses of the potential that this Team threatens to release and it was welcoming to see a really positive attitude from all our players who played their hearts out.

Next week it looks as though we will be without a game as our scheduled opponents do not have a Under 12’s squad this year,

Lastly a plea!! The squad needs some serious training time which means regularly attending training sessions as it was clear from Sundays game that performance levels will only improve alongside increased fitness. This Friday we will be looking very hard at rucking and counter rucking together with our catching skills……..
