A tale of two half's

This week saw Bees Barbarians way to local rivals Keighley Stags, with Keighley taking the first game, Bees looking to even the odds, playing for the first time on the new RFU 4G pitch.
Bees took with them possibly one of the youngest Barbarian squads in many years, it also show the talent coming through the junior ranks of the club. Bees was able to call on a good number of plays where in resent game due to injuries, was also a confidence booster as well.
Before the game someone must of ordered a gale, as we had strong wind cutting right a cross the pitch so guess it wouldn't benefit either team, it was to play it's part with the kicking games of the fly half's, and would decide the game down to just on conversion kicked.
With Keighley having the bigger set of forwards it looked like they was going to the same as they did when the visited wagon lane, route one rugby, using their big runners with pick and drive, to say they was going to put the Bees under pressure was understatement, this was to be the tail of the first half.
the Bees young guns held firm and frustrated Keighley stopping there attacking pressure. The Bees was to put them selves under pressure will silly handling errors which gifted Keighley the first try of the game, as I said the wind playing its part with the missed conversion, we could see this game meant a lot to both teams with the way it was being played, a real arm wrestles with some big tackle going in from both sides but Bees held fast with a fantastic defensive display definitely made for nail biting viewing.
Come towards the back end of the first half Bees lost their youngest player Ben Hemseley at scrum half up to that point Ben was having a great game linking forwards with the backs with quick ball and having some darting runs to keep Keighley on their toes, luckily for the Bees they had another scrum half playing on the wing in Harry Collis, so with a turn around of bodies in the ranks, it was harry to play a big part come the second half to urn him Man Of The Match this was given by his fellow players so first half was to end up with Keighley was just 5-0 to the good.
come the halftime talks the Bees came out in the second half with an extra step in their heels, with a fantastic defensive display, it would be their turn to put Keighley under the cosh, as i said a tale of two halves, Bees using their backs to gain yards down the pitch and the forwards running in hard balls it was only a matter of time before the Bees would get the just deserts, it was around Kelghleys ten yard line with Max Mountain taking the ball to the line and beating tackle after tackle to run all the way to get the Bees onto the score board, Max was having a fantastic game in defense and attack seem a changed man as well, not picking up any cards, again the wind messing with Dom Walkers kicking the game tied 5-5 again the game could of gone either way both teams giving their all but the Bees going through the gears and sating to ramp it up in attack, the Bees taking themselves down the field, another having a great game Corey Spencer with some slick hands had the ball out to Ryan Wilson to go over for the Bees second score of the game, this time with Dom picking up the extra seeing the Bees move out to a 12-5 lead this fifteen minutes left on the clock the Bees was to give it one last push in defense, all game keighley had the Bees smaller pack in the scrummage area, but that was about all they had Bees beat in.
with a switch off with seven minutes left Keighley was to grab a try in the corner, with a pressure kick to come the wind seem to hand on to the ball and saw it go wide, seeing the Bees hold out for a well fought win.
Final Score 12-10 to the Bees.
the Coaches couldn't of asked for more from this young squad their defense was strong against a much bigger experienced team, all the boys playing a big part in the win, you can see this team only going from strength to strength, with a this win moves Bees to third spot, and welcoming joint leaders Moortown next Saturday at home all to play for, the lads would welcome a good crowd to cheer them on.
