The Boys made hard work of it.

The Development squad was back home this weekend against Skipton 2nds, who them selves have had a great start to the season and found them selves sat on top spot in the Merit League, uso this was going to be a tough test for our young lads, our 1st Team was also at home so we had both senior team at Wagon lane entertaining the crowds again.
Skipton compared to our lads had a lot bigger pack, so we had to be at our best defensively. We had a problem in the squad with our front row, in that Corey Spencer our Captain is the only one old enough to be able to do contested scrum as our other lads are only 17 years of age an not turning 18 till January, with the RFU rules not allowing U18s to play contested scrums. We have to use them in other positions in the team, then to go searching for a front row, not to start the game uncontested by that gifting teams the win and league points regardless the result. Our boys don't want to do this so we have to ask any spare senior players if they can help. This week we had Benji Pickin our 1st team manager and Andy Smith, both play for the Vets team too. so a big thank you for making one in for the team and playing a big part in the game passing on your experience to the younger lads.
Skipton was going to push Bees all the way using there bigger set of forward trying to power their way up the pitch, but soon found our young lads were up to the test. Once again the Bees defense was to prove it was up to anything Skipton had to offer and over the course of the game was going to frustrate Skipton as they just couldn't break them down, that said Skipton in the first half had the Bees pinned in their own half for just about the whole of the half it was through turn over ball and quick hands that saw Rhys Holland break though with some powerful running to score on his home debut, Rhys during the game was to use his size and power to great effect to help his team move forward giving them some great positions which to attack from. But like i said Skipton wasn't early league leader by chance, again pinning the Bees back. When an opportunity to run the ball the Bees will do just that, with having Luca Devittoris back from Uni he didn't take long to break the Skipton line using his pace to running round four would be tacklers from our ten meter line to sit the ball down under the posts to extend the Bees lead with Dominic Walker making the extras making it 12-0 to the Bees. But these were score against the run of play. In the first half one of only a few times Skipton did manage to break our defensive line the speed in our back was able to cover any attacks, Skipton got a penalty just outside the Bees twenty-two they opted to got for the three points this was to be their only points of the game. At half time break the lads got together with Corey Spencer and Luke Peacock giving the lads a bit of a roasting around the errors they was making, which was giving Skipton the chance to use their big froward to run the ball. Also that they had to start playing smart rugby, to start stretching the Skipton defensive line, and tire their forward, to get back to basics which they do well.
Come second half the talk seemed to do the trick, as the Bees started to more the ball about, it was the Bees turn to frustrate Skipton in pinning them in their own half, next to break the white wash was Matthew Dilworth spotting a gap from the half way line, breaking some sloppy tackling to race through, Byron Finn collected the extras. It was evident Skipton was getting frustrated with the Penalty's they was giving away. Byron Finn Kicking two penalty's from around the 45 meter mark, Byron's kicking was to help his team further with some monster kicks to touch to give the forward platform to work from. there was still around twenty minutes to play. Bees was into their groove by this time moving the ball about looking a lot more comfortable an in control of the game. Another one of the Bees was to be rewarded for his hard shift during the game that went to Tom Dyson, having several attacking runs and causing Skipton no amount of trouble, again finding a gap in the defense and just breezing past Skipton player to go over for a great solo try. The game was sealed at this point Skipton wasn't able to use their forward to any effect as the young Bees team had them covered at every turn and tackle. With was last through of the dice for Skipton they throw a long pass out to the wing only for it to be pick out the air for another debutante and his first try in Bees colors going to Mason Holmes-field on his debut, with Byron claiming the extra taking his tally for the game to ten points.
once again we could name each and everyone for another great display under a lot of pressure from a very experienced Skipton side who am sure will carry on doing well in the league.
With having Tafa back as Head Coach for the development team it was great to have him back at the sidelines. Talking to him after the game he said all the lads did really well considering how young they are, and that the numbers at training on a Tuesday and Thursday have been brilliant, making the coaches jobs so much easier, he also had the task of naming Man of the Match, again he said it could of gone to so many of them today, but their was three that stood out for him these were Tom Dyson, David Exley and Byron Finn, but felt for his all round game in defense and attack and his great kicking game in giving his team great positions to work from.
Man of the Match this week went to Byron Finn Well Done.
another thank you must be said to a man that has supported the young lads through the juniors and colts with me, who has help when he didn't have to, who's son also plays. Thank you to Martin Walker for your helping each week running the touch line for the team.
So next week see's the lads at home again to another strong experienced side in the form of Aireborough 2nd team, so let keep the great number down at training to prepare for this weekend coming.
