Here we go again, 12 players from last weeks starting line up unavailable including every back who performed so well last week at Morley! With players returning next week this weeks performance poses a few selection (nice) issues for next week. Get training if you want to be sure of selection is my advice,,,
Once again Sam Cummins, Carlos and Foggy volunteered to help out from the bench only to find themselves with 12 team mates and having to do a full shift. With Sam kicking at every attempt available point and Selby's young kicker missed the same number of points to go with both teams three tries, effectively (say it quitely) won us the game. Thanks go to back row colt Harry Taylor making his senior debut on the wing - well done Harry.
The game started with Selby running in a very good try out on the left wing after dominating all the early phases in the first 3 minutes 0:5 as the mis hit kick was left short. The power and game was clearly with Selby and Bees knew they had to man up to avoid a pasting. The atrocious penalty account only added to Bees problems as discipline was poor but at least the Bees were showing they were up for the challenge against an equally determined Selby team.
Once the discipline improved then Bees were able to take the game into Selby's half with a try from returning Sam Hesketh converted by Sam from out wide set up this to be a monster contest.
The key phase of the game began now with Selby trying to use their bigger pack to bash hard through the middle. Selby did get some reward from a second try from their great efforts Again the kick was missed 10:7 but Selby were looking to play by the book and go through the phases.
The Bees defence held every line and eventually Selby's main ball carriers were stopped by the sheer pain of their efforts. With 2 minutes left to half time, Crotchy picked up a yellow card for a high tackle which really was a result of all the earlier indiscipline. HT 7:10
With the Bees a man down Selby started with the same plan to bash hard through the middle but this again proved the wrong option again a hard tackling Bees with notable big hits from Karl and Greavsey closing off the channels at the first tackle. With Bees in the ascendancy and with Crotchys return it was the Bees turn to now bash through the middle now dominate the game in Selby's half. No surprise when Greavsey piled through to touch down and for Sam to convert 14:10.
Selby did score another try following a charge down after Harry playing out of position failed to clear a deep kick from Selby but again the missed kick proved crucial 14:15. The next phase ended with a penalty 25m out in front of the posts. Sam made it an easily 17:15 with 8 minutes remaining.
Selbey had not come to roll over and were able to take territory from a more penalties which were easily made good from their good line out until at last they got one wrong on the Bees 22m and from there Bees only went forward and once again Greavsey piled over and Sam converted 24:15.
Selby tried hard to at least get two bonus points and whilst one would have begrudged them a consolation try they had too energy and time.
FT 24:15
MOM bottle of fizz went to Brookie but there was no one that did not deserve a slurp if he had not drunk the lot with his dinner!
