Yarnbury spring shock in Aire-Wharfe Cup

Yarnbury sprang a surprise tonight by defeating Bradford & Bingley to reach the Aire-Wharfe Cup final.

The host club won 21-14, 18-year-old No 8 James Cryan being outstanding, as well as scoring a try.

The other Yarnbury try came from centre Lee Mortimer, who also played well, and Steve Riley kicked three penalties and a conversion.

Tries for the Bees came from centre Jim McBirnie and replacement scrum half James Phillips, Harry Key adding two conversions.

Ilkley lost their Aire-Wharfe Plate semi-final 21-14 at home to West Leeds, prop Matt Forrest and centre Joe Spencer getting Ilkley’s tries and Spencer adding a conversion.

Skipton lost 44-41 to Roundhegians in the other semi-final after extra-time. It was 34-34 at full-time in what was a thrilling contest.
