Leeds Meds n Teeth called of Friday afternoon and thankfully Otley were in the pool to step in at the last moment,
With a few of the 2s stalwarts away this week then it was good to see so many other players stepping into the breech and 22 players kitting up for this friendly fixture. With Sam Jeffery on a plane to Thailand and both Will and Goughy unavailable then a no.9 was urgently needed and in stepped U17 Harry Collis to make his senior debut. With a strong back row and first team coach Dico at 10 he was thought to be in good hands until we saw size of the Otley pack.
Otley started strongly and tested the Bees defence with quick ball through the backs and were soon running in the first of their three first half tries. But after every Otley score the Bees countered and scored sparkling backs tries from Sealy Alex and Dico. Harry even scored a debut try when Otley fluffed clearing their line leaving Harry to pick up and quickly run at two rather large defenders on the Otley line. Harry did the brave thing and darted through knee high to score in the corner. A shocked Otley were not happy to have been outscored at half time 4 tries to 3 and turn around 22:21 down,
With the Bees making regular changes to give everyone a fair share of the game it was difficult to maintain the pace shown in the first half and Otley were able to step up their game to score four unanswered tries and take the game 47:22.
Happy day, well done lads. With a few players to come back next week then there will be some good selection problems for the coaches to resolve. Training Thursday to be in contention ...
