The Bees go top of the league after a third successive win

In appalling conditions with a storm blowing intermittently down the Aire Valley, the Bees still managed to play some decent rugby with ball in hand where the conditions would normally have dictated a grim forward tussle. The game did contain its fair share of bumping and barging, and after an initial stalemate, the Bees forwards gradually started to come out on top in the midfield arm wrestling.

The platform established by the forwards led to a first try for the home side on 17 minutes as full back Dom Walker was able to squeeze over wide on the left after a period of concerted pressure. The same player had edged the Bees into a six point lead with penalties in the eighth and fourteenth minutes.

On a rare incursion into Bees territory the visitors attempted to move the ball wide to the left along their back line. Ryan Wilson galloped out from the defensive line and with a swing of the boot, volleyed the wayward pass deep into the opposition half. Although the ball span right across the field , Wilson had the legs to outpace the defence and collect his own kick to gallop home behind the posts. With eight minutes to go to half time it was 18 nil to the home side and with the elements favouring the visitors in the second half, it seemed Halifax were very much still in the game.

The second half opened with the Bees setting up camp in the Halifax twenty two and it seemed inevitable a score would come. On 45 minutes, debutant Jack Kennedy found himself two or three metres short of the whitewash to the left of the posts. The big centre did not need a second invitation to bulldoze his way to the line with Halifax's defence unable to stop him dotting down.

Twelve minutes later the Bees looked certain to increase their advantage as Alex Leadbeater hacked on a loose ball and a team mate hared past him with the line at his mercy. A cynical trip from Macall Baker, sent the Bees player flying and the chance was lost. While everyone supporting the home side anticipated a red card and a penalty try, the referee gave the Halifax player ten minutes in the sin bin. The relief for the visitors was short lived as Corey Spencer ploughed over from the next possession and it was now 32 nil with the four try bonus point secured.

Halifax were suddenly enjoying their best period on the front foot as the game wound down, but superb defence from the home side kept their best efforts at bay. In the 79th minute, Ben Hemsley sold a dummy and was away through a hole in the defence. Alex Leadbeater was steaming alongside him in support and collected Hemsley's pass to storm under the posts, giving Walker an easy chip shot to put the game to bed at 39 nil.
