Its the first home game of the season for the First Team - we welcome Cleckheaton

2 weeks ago By Nick Patterson

The game kicks off at 3pm and will be preceded by a free buffet in the marquee at around 1.30

It's over a decade since our two clubs enjoyed some feisty little encounters, with our last season together coming in 2005/6 when the Bees won National 3 North, with Cleckheaton finishing tenth. Richard Hughes and Roger Raper featured in the Bees squad that season and it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that one or more may be dragged out of the Retirement Home and pressed into service this season.

The Bees' squad that season was led by Tom Rhodes who racked up 270 points over the season; the whole Bees backline enjoyed getting over the whitewash that term too - with Mark Elvis Kirkby leading the way with 17, Joe Simpson 14, Joe Heta 10 and the Greaves brothers chipping in 9 tries apiece. Johhny Leota, now of Sale Sharks also contributed 5 tries for us. Our pack that season also featured Bloues Volschenk, Barry Jacobz, Kern Yates, Neil Spence and Latu Makaafi, so it is perhaps understandable that we finished on top of the pile.

As it is early season the game on Saturday kicks of at 3pm and there is a free buffet on in the marquee from around 1.30pm.
